Mick Jagger fights the clock as he admits there’s “nothing good about” ageing
Mick Jagger has opened up about his negative experience with growing older, stating that there’s absolutely “nothing good about it” as he nears his 83rd birthday.
Earlier this year, at the apex of the rollout for their latest album, Foreign Tongues, The Rolling Stones released a controversial music video for their single, ‘In The Stars’.
In it, the band uses de-ageing technology to look like their younger selves, created “by Deep Voodoo using groundbreaking deepfake technology.” The controversial use of AI divided their fanbase.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, the illustrious frontman was asked, in light of the video, what he thought was “good about getting older, physically or metaphysically.”
Jagger didn’t mince his words as he responded with a firm, “There’s nothing good about it.”
He went on, “I forgot all my wisdom. I might have had a couple of pearls drop, but I’ve already forgotten what they are.”
Jagger added, “So no, it’s not particularly pleasant. You can’t do things as quickly as you want to. Physically, you’ve got to be more careful.”
Perhaps with the current World Cup on his mind, Jagger conjured up a keen metaphor as he added, “You know, when you’re playing football, they put you in goal a lot. I’m not very good at it!”
Elsewhere, the 82-year-old recently revealed the key to the band’s unparalleled longevity, sharing that he has “a marriage of a kind” with his bandmates, though admitting, “Who’s wifey and who’s husband is another thing. But maybe that’s what keeps it going.”
Far Out gave The Rolling Stones’ latest release, Foreign Tongues, two-and-a-half stars, observing, “While the material offers pearls of greatness amid a chunk of banal blues retreads we’ve all heard before, The Rolling Stones’ magic synergy and admirable efforts to keep their old flame alive elevate Foreign Tongues somewhere between ‘respectable’ and better than most of their 1980s to ‘90s.”
