Mick Jagger admits Rolling Stones biopic “interests me” but reveals one major reservation

Mick Jagger has confirmed he does have interest in bringing The Rolling Stones‘ story to the big screen as a biopic.

Over the past few years, Hollywood has developed an obsession with music biopics following the success of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman.

We’ve also seen Timothée Chalamet become Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, Jeremy Allen-White play Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere, and the controversial Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, dominate the box office earlier this year.

Still to come, there’s Sam Mendes’ biopic series on The Beatles, which will consist of four films, as well as a Cameron Crowe movie on the life and times of Joni Mitchell.

However, one major artist to have not had the biopic treatment is The Rolling Stones, which Jagger has now acknowledged, confirming his interest but also revealing his major reservation about the possibility.

Speaking to GQ, Jagger shared, Yeah, it interests me. I don’t want to impart it to you, but, I know how I see it. There’s lots of ways of doing biopics.”

Jagger elaborated, “So most of the time when you do a biopic, you do one small section of someone’s life bookended by some other stuff. Take the Bob Dylan movie. You do the moment when Bob went electric. You’d have to think, what are you going to zero in on? And where’s your two years of interest?”

Due to the vast career of The Stones, which spans more than 60 years, Jagger is unsure which era of the band would translate best to the screen, admitting, “I don’t know which section, because it’s a long period.”

Previously, in 2005, there was a biopic released, titled Stoned, on their late founding member Brian Johnson, but it did not have the support of the band, who refused to let any of their music appear in the movie.

As far as Jagger is concerned, The Rolling Stones are currently writing their story and are yet to reach their final chapter with their new album, Foreign Tongues, arriving on July 10th.

Earlier this week, they continued to preview the upcoming album with a pair of new singles, including ‘Divine Intervention’ featuring The Cure’s Robert Smith, as well as ‘Jealous Lover’.
