Michael Mann to adapt South Korean thriller ‘Veteran’
The American director Michael Mann has revealed plans to create a US adaptation of the South Korean crime thriller Veteran.
The new movie is currently in its early stages of development, but the Heat director has disclosed that he’s working with US and South Korean factions of CJ ENM, Korea’s main film and TV corporation. Currently, Mann hasn’t decided whether he will tackle direction or take a more ancillary role in production and screenwriting.
“We are developing a script with Michael Mann, but his role and our schedule are not fixed yet,” a representative for CJ ENM told Variety.
The project reportedly slowed down during the screenwriters’ strike, and it is hoped that, with a deal settled last month, the production can resume.
The official synopsis for the 2015 original reads: “An honest cop seeks justice for a common man against all odds. A rich boy seeks revenge on the cop.”
Meanwhile, Mann is currently piecing together a sequel for his critically acclaimed movie of 1995, Heat. The movie will return to the narrative left nearly three decades ago by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
