Michael B Jordan’s hatred of blood caused emergency meeting on ‘Sinners’ set
Director Ryan Coogler was forced to take an emergency meeting while filming Sinners due to Michael B Jordan‘s hatred of fake blood.
Sinners, released in cinemas on April 18th, 2025, stars Johnson in two roles as he portrays twin brothers who return to their hometown in a bid to leave their troubles behind. However, upon coming home, they discover an even more unsettling force.
The movie is set in the southern states of America during the 1930s and has been described as an action horror film, which therefore required a lot of fake blood during filming.
Now, Coogler has revealed the issues that Jordan had with the fake blood while they were on set and shared how they dealt with the obstacle, telling People, “I got called into a meeting a few weeks in by my producer and my wife Zinzi Coogler, and she was like, ‘Hey, we gotta talk about Mike.’ I’m like, ‘What? What’s going on?’ And she’s like, ‘The blood—he doesn’t like it.’ I’m like, ‘Wait, what?’”
Jordan, who was also with Coogler when he conducted the interview, jovially defended his actions and denied that he was complaining, adding, “First of all, there’s a difference between complaining and venting. I was just more venting, you know what I’m saying?”
While he was happy to work with fake blood despite his fears, he felt welcomed by the responsive and thoughtful measures put in place by the crew, adding, “But they care about me, so they had a meeting. I appreciate the meeting.”
Additionally, Jordan revealed that he isn’t a fan of horror movies and hoped working on Sinners would “take the edge off” when viewing the genre. The experience also desensitised him to fake blood, adding, “I do like them a lot more, I just want to say that.” However, he also conceded, “The blood was a lot”.
Sinners, which also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton and Jack O’Connell, is in cinemas now.
