Metz announce indefinite hiatus after upcoming tour

Renowned Canadian noise rock band Metz announced they will be going on an indefinite hiatus once their upcoming UK and European tour is complete.

The three members shared a statement on social media confirming that once the band have completed their upcoming tour at the end of this year, which will see them travel around Europe and the UK for a couple of months, they will close the door on Metz indefinitely. The news comes as an unwanted, surprising shock to fans who weren’t aware the band were considering calling it a day.

“Our upcoming EU/UK Tour will be our last,” they wrote on social media, “We’ve collectively decided to close this chapter of Metz. The band will be on ‘indefinite hiatus’ while we take time to focus on other endeavours and enjoy more time at home with our families.”

The band has made a name for itself on the noise-rock scene for over ten years. When they released their debut album in October 2012, it was met with a barrage of praise from fans and critics alike. Every track was packed with attitude, as the unrelenting energy that the band put into their studio albums and live shows came across clearly. Now, after so much time in the spotlight and on the road, the band needs a break.

“For the last 15+ years, we’ve dedicated our lives to this band and have had the immense privilege and pleasure of touring the globe and seeing the world,” they wrote, “It has been nothing short of life-affirming. METZ has brought an immeasurable amount of joy to our lives, and it’s our sincere hope it’s brought you some joy too. We are so grateful to all of you who’ve joined us along the way and have made this life a reality for the three of us.”

The band haven’t confirmed that there have been any disputes or problems. It appears that their decision to stop making music together was purely based on the fact that they have been doing it for so long and feel exhausted by the prospect of continuing. They confirm in their statement that they are happy with what they’ve achieved as a band and thank their fans for their persistent support.

“If you’ve ever attended a METZ show, you know it was more than a band to us. We gave every ounce of ourselves to METZ, and it will be very hard to let it go. The intangible feeling of connection, community and inclusivity that music creates has always been at the heart of what we do and will inevitably be what we miss the most. We will miss singing, screaming, and dancing with all of you.”

Metz have said they hope fans will join them one last time on their upcoming tour.
