Metric withdraw from joint tour with Bloc Party following dispute

Metric have withdrawn from their North American tour with Bloc Party due to a production dispute. Blonde Redhead have since been confirmed as their replacement for the set of dates.

In February, Bloc Party and Metric announced plans for the summer tour which was supposed to see the two bands perform Silent Alarm and Fantasies in full, respectively. They previously toured together in 2006.

Now, in a statement on Instagram, Metric shared: “We are so sorry to come to you all with some disappointing news. Reluctantly, we are withdrawing from the upcoming tour with Bloc Party. We were so excited going into this tour and we’d all landed on an agreement that would allow both parties to collaborate and to build a truly special show for the fans.”

The message continued: “In the last few weeks, Bloc Party’s team made some sudden production decisions that broke the agreement we’d made, which left us unable to continue despite our best efforts to find solutions.”

Metric again apologised to fans regarding their absence from the upcoming tour, adding, “We are very sorry we can’t be there.” It also explained that refunds are available from purchase points within the next 30 days.

They earnestly continued: “We are extremely disappointed by this outcome and wish it could have been different.”

Additionally, Metric will still be performing at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto on June 6th with Sam Roberts Band taking Bloc Party’s place on the bill. They have also announced further shows in their native Canada.

On Instagram Stories, Bloc Party wrote: “Due to production issues, Metric will no longer be performing with Bloc Party on our US tour and we will no longer be playing the June 6 Toronto show with Metric. Blonde Redhead will now be joining our US dates as support.”

Bloc Party will still tour the US this summer and will visit historic outdoor venues such as the Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Forest Hills Stadium.
