Two Metallica fans arrested after scaling set at Australian stadium show

Two Metallica fans have been arrested and charged after they allegedly managed to scale the band’s set for their show at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia.

Social media footage from the concert, which took place on November 1st and opened the band’s Australian leg of their current tour, shows two men climbing a huge tower in the centre of the stadium, which was an integral part of the sound system as it was rigged with massive speakers.

According to a local report in The West Australian, the pair of suspects, identified as a 20-year-old from Bunbury and a 23-year-old from Australind, were arrested soon after the gig and charged with trespassing, with a date for a court appearance yet to be confirmed for a later date.

Despite the incident, the rest of the concert came as a significant moment in the midst of Metallica’s mammoth M72 world tour, as it marked the first time the band had played on Australian soil in 12 years.

They had previously been scheduled to play a run of gigs in the country back in 2019, but these were cancelled on account of frontman James Hetfield having to enter rehab.

Metallic have run up a massive line of shows over the course of the last year, as they are set to continue their Australian leg at the Adelaide Oval on November 5th, before taking in stops in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney.

From there, they will close out the year with shows in New Zealand, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, before returning to the UK and Europe next summer for a stadium tour. They are set to perform dates in Dublin, Glasgow, Cardiff, and London.
