Metal band Drowning Pool cancel tour due to “low ticket sales”

The nu metal band Drowning Pool has cancelled their first-ever tour of South America a day before it was due to kick off amid “low ticket sales”, according to promoters.

The group was slated to start their South American leg on May 20th in Bogota, Colombia, but pulled the plug on the eve of the performance.

In a statement translated from Spanish, their tour organisers shared, “The decision was made jointly by all local promoters involved due to low ticket sales recorded in all cities on the tour.”

However, the trio, consisting of singer Ryan McCombs, guitarist CJ Pierce, drummer Mike Luce, and bassist Stevie Benton, have shared a different explanation for the tour cancellation.

In an appearance on the Teaser Talk podcast, Pierce shared that “all the logistics weren’t put together for us to get there in time”.

He added, “There’s a lot of, you know, again, red tape and stuff like that because we didn’t meet the deadline for it. So, I’m hoping to go back. Love South America. We really want to play there. I want to go so bad. But yeah, that’s going to be it.”

Despite the setback, the band have an exciting summer ahead. They are set to reissue their debut album, Sinner, next month for the LP’s 25th anniversary, as well as making an appearance at Download Festival.

Drowning Pool has fallen in line with a worrying trend emerging in the music industry, which experts have named “blue dot fever” in reference to the seemingly contagious spread of empty seats at shows.

As such, an increasing number of musicians have cancelled tours due to ticket sales. Recently, chart-topping pop group The Pussycat Dolls cancelled their US tour after taking an “honest look at the North American run”.

Additionally, other artists such as Kiefer Sutherland, Post Malone, Meghan Trainor, and Zayn Malik have all cancelled shows in America.
