Meghan Markle is working on new Netflix animated series 'Pearl'

The rise in prominence of Meghan Markle very well may be the most staggering story in the whole of TV and film history, rising through minor roles on the small screen before starring in the wildly popular series Suits and marrying into royalty to become “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex”.

Though it looks as though, after a very understandable hiatus from the entertainment industry, Meghan is looking to establish herself once more as a media name, teaming up with her husband Prince Harry to bring a second project to the streaming platform Netflix.

Markle announced that she would be working with Netflix on a new animated series for the production company founded by the royal couple, named Archewell Productions. The new series, titled Pearl will follow the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is creatively and academically inspired by major historical figures. “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges,” Markle stated in an announcement on Archewell’s website.

Continuing, the Duchess noted, “I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history”. Collaborating with David Furnish, husband of Elton John, and producer of the 2019 biopic Rocketman, Meghan Markle expressed her joy, “David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today”.

It’s the second series the royal couple have planned to work with Netflix on, signing a multi-year deal with the platform last year to create a range of factual and fictional programming. The first project will be an upcoming docuseries titled Heart of Invictus, and will follow competitors at the Invictus Games, a tournament set up by Harry for injured army personnel and veterans.

Pearl is yet to receive a release date.
