Massive Attack confirm death of guitarist Angelo Bruschini

Angelo Bruschini, the guitarist best known for his work with Massive Attack, has died. The Bristolian band have confirmed his passing.

The tragic news began to spread across social media platforms on October 23rd but has since been confirmed in a post from Massive Attack on October 24th. Further details such as his cause of death haven’t been divulged at this juncture. However, in his final social media post made in July, Bruschini revealed he was fighting lung cancer.

He wrote: “Twice now I have been told ‘Good luck’ by specialists at the hospital over lung cancer, I think I’m fucked. Had a great life, seen the world many many times, met lots of wonderful people, but the door is closing, think I will write a book.”

“RIP Angelo. A singularly brilliant & eccentric talent,” Massive Attack wrote in a post to X, formerly known as Twitter. “Impossible to quantify your contribution to the Massive Attack canon. How lucky we were to share such a life together.”

In the mid-1990s, Angelo joined the bristol-based trip-hop collective Massive Attack, performing memorable guitar pieces on their 1998 masterpiece album, Mezzanine. ‘Angel’ presents some of his finest work for the band. Hear below.

Angelo also played with several other bands through the 1990s and beyond, including The Numbers, Rimshots, and The Blue Aeroplanes. The Blue Aeroplanes wrote a tribute to their “brother” in a post on Facebook on Monday night.

“We are devastated to announce the passing of our brother Angelo Bruschini,” the post read. “Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Rest In Peace Ange x.”
