Martin Scorsese’s Bob Dylan Netflix movie gets official release date
The eagerly anticipated film Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese has been given a summer release date. It will premiere in a select number of cinemas and hit the streaming platform on June 12th.
The film will follow the 1975 to 1976 tour that saw Dylan work with a handpicked group of collaborators such as Joan Baez, T-Bone Burnett, Mick Ronson, Scarlet Riviera, Patti Smith and many more.
Netflix released a statement, saying: “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese’ captures the troubled spirit of America in 1975 and the joyous music that Dylan performed during the fall of that year. Part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream, ‘Rolling Thunder’ is a one of a kind experience, from master filmmaker Martin Scorsese.”
With much speculation about the direction of the film, a source close to production told The List that the project will not be pigeonholed as a documentary, saying: “There’s a reason the word ‘story’ appears in the title.”
We know that fans will be treated to on-camera interviews with Dylan in the film, but Netflix has yet to confirm a release date. However, the aforementioned source added that its eagerly anticipated release is only “months away”.
Scorsese’s previous Dylan documentary, No Direction Home, was released in 2005 and won a Grammy Award for ‘Best Longform Video’.
