Mark Hamill releases rare footage of ‘Star Wars’ screen test with Harrison Ford
American actor Mark Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, has shared some rare footage of him first attempting the role.
As is well documented, actor Robert Englund was auditioning for a role in Apocalypse Now when he noticed that auditions for George Lucas‘ Star Wars film was taking place in the same building. Englund sat and watched actors put their spin on the role when he realised that Hamill, his friend, would be the perfect actor to take on the role of Luke Skywalker.
After suggesting the role to Hamill, the actor impressed and landed the job.
The next step, recording the screen test. Sitting alongside the great Harrison Ford, the two ran though some of their lines despite never having read the script nor did they have any idea what the film would be about.
“Neither 1 of us had read the script at this point, only 1 scene,” Hamill revealed. “I asked George what kind of movie it was ‘let’s just do it, we’ll talk about that later.’ We never did talk about it later we just did it.”
