Margot Robbie takes extended break from acting
Barbie star Margot Robbie has revealed that she is currently on a hiatus from acting and has no immediate plans to return.
It has been over a year since Robbie was last on set, but she’s maintained a hectic schedule thanks to her production company, LuckyChap. The company was responsible for Barbie, which Robbie also produced, along with Emerald Fennell’s recent movie, Saltburn.
In addition to appearing in Barbie in 2023, Robbie also featured in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and has been a constant presence in Hollywood for the last decade. However, the only upcoming project she is set to act in is an Ocean’s Eleven prequel, which is still in the production stage.
During a new interview with Deadline, Robbie revealed she’s still extremely busy despite not being on set. She told the publication: “Everyone says that. Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break [laughs].'”
“No, the producing is 24/7, but on the acting side, this is the longest I haven’t acted on a set, because we finished Barbie in October of 2022,” she added. “So, it’s already been more than a year since I was on set as an actor, and other than Covid, that’s the first time that’s ever happened”.
Discussing her plans for the future, Robbie said: “I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while. Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”
Meanwhile, George Clooney recently gave his blessing for Robbie and Gosling to portray his fictional parents in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel. “Margot Robbie is my mother? I’ve always thought that. Ryan Gosling is my father. Now when you think about it, it makes sense. Truly,” he remarked at the red carpet of his new movie The Boys In The Boat.
As of yet, there is no timeline for a potential release date for the film or when shooting is scheduled to begin.
