Mandy Moore’s home burned down in Los Angeles wildfires: “I am devastated”

Actor Mandy Moore has revealed her home was burned down by the destructive wildfires currently devastating the Los Angeles area.

As of January 9th, more than 1,100 structures had been destroyed, and five people have died because of the wildfires. The Pacific Palisades area has been particularly hard hit, with nearly 7,000 hectares engulfed in flames with zero containment. More than 150,000 Los Angeles residents have been affected by the destructive wildfires currently tearing through the city which has caused mass evacuations.

Four major fires are currently burning in four separate areas of the city: the Palisades fire, Eaton fire, Hurst fire, and Lidia fire. Moore’s home is one of the many that has been burned down in the Eaton area, which she revealed on social media.

Since the wildfires began earlier this week, the This Is Us star has used Instagram Stories to update her followers. On January 7th, Moore reassured fans that she had successfully evacuated the area along with her “kids, dogs, and cats.”

On January 8th, she added in a new post, “Grateful for the kindness of friends that we had a place to land last night. Trying to shield the kids from the immense sadness and worry I feel. Praying for everyone in our beautiful city. So gutted for the destruction and loss. Don’t know if our place made it. #eatonfire.”

Later in the same day, Moore shared a video of the area and revealed that her home was no more. She wrote: “This is Altadena. Leveled. My sweet home. I am devastated and gutted for those of us who’ve lost so much. I’m absolutely numb.”

In addition to losing her home, Moore also shared, “My children’s school is gone. Our favorite restaurants, leveled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too. Our community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together. Sending love to all affected and on the front lines trying to get this under control.”

Other notable figures in the film industry, including Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins, Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Paris Hilton, and Adam Brody, have also had their homes destroyed. While Tom Hanks, Ben Affleck, and Mark Hamill evacuated their homes due to the fires.

Additionally, in response to the fires, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it would extend Oscar voting by two days and postpone the announcement of the nominations to January 19th. The Critics Choice Awards, which were due to take place on January 12th, have been postponed to January 26th.
