A 19-year-old man has been jailed after he was found guilty of raping a woman in her tent at Creamfields Festival.

Bando Ysihara, originally from Peckham Grove, south London, was found guilty at at Chester Crown Court and sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison.

During the trial, jurors heard details of how Ysihara entered the victim’s tent and raped her at 11PM on the final night of the Cheshire music event. The prosecution also played audio footage of the victim’s 999 call when she reported the incident, explaining that she had never met Ysihara before.

“This young woman had gone to a music festival to enjoy herself with her friends,” Julie Harrison, of Mersey-Cheshire Crown Prosecution Service, said after his sentencing,

“Instead she was left traumatised by Ysihara who took advantage of the fact that she was alone and raped her.

“He refused to admit what he had done despite strong evidence, so his victim then had to relive the dreadful events of that night in a trial.

“The police and Crown Prosecution Service built a strong case and the jury took less than an hour to find him guilty.

“This man caused the victim and her family unbelievable distress and we hope that the successful conclusion of this case is of some comfort to them.”
