Neighbour indicted for murder of ‘King of the Hill’ actor Jonathan Joss
A man has been indicted for the murder of King of the Hill actor Jonathan Joss.
A grand jury in Texas indicted Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, aged 57, on one count of murder on November 17th, according to court records obtained by People.
Ceja Alvarez was previously arrested in June and charged with first-degree murder before being released on bail after posting a $200,000 bond.
Joss, full name Jonathan Joss Gonzalez, was shot and killed at his home in San Antonio, Texas, on June 1st, 2025.
Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, later alleged on social media that Ceja Alvarez, who was a neighbour, began to shout homophobic slurs before firing his gun and killing Joss.
Kern de Gonzales wrote, “Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.”
He also said, “We were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship.” Kern de Gonzales described this behaviour as “openly homophobic”.
Ceja Alvarez fled the scene before being detained by police and confessed to the murder of Joss, telling officers, according to a police report, “I shot him.”
Before Joss’ death, the couple had been living in hotels after their property had burned down, and had only returned to the home briefly to check for mail.
San Antonio Police Department have since confirmed they responded more than 50 times to calls made at the home that Joss and Kern de Gonzales shared between January 26th, 2024, and February 9th, 2025.
In King of the Hill, Joss voiced John Redcorn in all 13 seasons of the hit show. Following his death, the show’s creators took to Instagram to write, “His voice will be missed at King of the Hill, and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan’s friends and family.”
