Man who grabbed Ariana Grande at ‘Wicked: For Good’ premiere charged in court

The man who grabbed actor Ariana Grande at the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore has been charged in court.

In a video, which has since gone viral on social media, Australian man Johnson Wen was filmed barging past a horde of photographers before making his way to Grande while the cast walked, hand-in-hand, down the yellow carpet. The event was already chaotic due to the number of fans surrounding them.

Luckily for Grande, her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, was on hand to help her get away from Wen, and her other co-stars also made sure to check up on the Oscar-nominee to ensure that she was safe and well.

After the event, Wen, aged 26, posted on his Instagram that he was “free after being arrested”. However, on November 14th, he was then charged with being a public nuisance by the Singapore court.

As per the BBC, local media shares that Wen, who was unrepresented, intends to plead guilty.

Wen has a history of invading concerts or public events. Earlier this year, he jumped on stage at Katy Perry’s Sydney concert. In December last year, he disrupted a show by the EDM duo The Chainsmokers.

His latest stunt took place in celebration of the new Broadway film adaptation, which will close out with the follow-up movie to the 2024 box office hit, Wicked. The project focuses on the second half of the story, and is again directed by Jon M Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox.

The first instalment enjoyed record-breaking success at the box office. It grossed $114 million, while the previous musical with the highest had been Into the Woods, which boasted a $3 1million opening weekend. The new movie will hit cinemas on November 21st.

Grande has not commented on the incident. Thankfully, the rest of the event proceeded as planned, with no further mishaps. Watch the trailer for the upcoming movie below.
