Man dies after falling from London’s Tate Modern gallery

A man has died after falling from the Tate Modern art gallery in London. The Metropolitan Police have said the death was “unexpected” but the incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.

It was reported that on February 2nd that onlookers, including a group of schoolchildren, watched on as the man climbed over a barrier and jumped from the balcony. Emergency services made their way to the gallery at around 10.45am after being called to the scene.

The mother of one of the witnesses told The Times: “All children involved are understandably traumatised.”

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene. As a mark of respect, the gallery shut for the day. “We are very sad to report that a member of the public passed away at Tate Modern this morning,” the museum said in a statement.

They continued: “The police are not treating the event as suspicious, but we have closed the gallery for the day as a mark of respect. All our thoughts are with the person’s family and friends at this time.”

The victim has not yet been identified to the public. This is now the second time someone has had a tragic fall at the Tate Modern.

Previously, a six-year-old French boy fell over 100 feet after being thrown by Jonty Bravery in 2019. The young boy survived but suffered a bleed on the brain and several broken bones and now uses a wheelchair.
