Madi Diaz covers Blink-182’s ‘Enema of the State’ to raise money for immigrant legal aid charity
Madi Diaz has released a cover of Blink-182’s iconic album Enema of the State in order to provide legal aid to immigrants in America.
The singer most recently released her own latest album, Fatal Optimist, but on top of this, Diaz has recorded a track-by-track cover of the 1999 record during the same process, which she has now released on Bandcamp.
The proceeds from Diaz’s version, named Enema of the Garden State, will go directly towards the charity Defending Our Neighbors Fund, which provides legal assistance to immigrants in the United States who are caught up in Donald Trump’s ICE agenda and administration policies.
“These recordings started out as a fun exercise fueled by the love and fandom I have for Blink-182 and the record Enema Of The State,” Diaz wrote on Instagram while revealing the news on November 10th. “No planning, no overthinking, no analysing allowed, just ripping into the songs. It was pure joy with no clear intention of releasing this project until recently,” she added.
However, the folk singer then explained that, despite the fun spirit of the album, she realised it had a much deeper relevance to today’s political climate than she first imagined. Describing the title Enema of the State as “socially ironic”, she continued: “How ridiculous it is to cover this record in 2025 when it feels like we need to flush the system and give our whole government a health check / gut check.”
Originally released as the breakthrough record for Blink-182 in 1999, Enema of the State features some of the band’s most classic hits, including ‘What’s My Age Again’ and ‘All The Small Things’.
Diaz said she hopes her version of Enema of the Garden State helps “to raise awareness and money for people in need of defense and aid in their right to live and work and breathe and be and stay on American soil.”
With regard to her own latest album Fatal Optimist, the singer recently mused in an interview with Far Out that the record was born out of her need to find “solitude and quiet” after the past few manic years of her life.
Diaz’s cover album, Enema of the Garden State, is available on Bandcamp now.
