Macaulay Culkin reportedly in talks over new ‘Home Alone’ movie
Macaulay Culkin is certainly no longer a fresh-faced ten-year-old, but he’s reportedly in talks to return to the Home Alone franchise, which made him a star.
The actor became an immediate Hollywood stalwart when he graced the screen playing eight-year-old Kevin McCallister in the 1990 Christmas classic, before reprising the role two years later for Home Alone: Lost in New York.
However, now 36 years on from the original, it seems that Culkin could be in talks to reignite the Home Alone franchise in some capacity.
A report from Matt Beloni on the latest episode of the Here’s The Town podcast claimed that the actor was recently seen on the Disney lot, with executives at the studio supposedly very excited about a revival of the series.
Beloni also reported that Culkin has come up with a new concept for the movie himself, which Disney is apparently keen to explore and start developing.
While obviously none of these details are yet confirmed by any party involved, it would mark the first time that Culkin has ever returned to any of his childhood roles as an adult.
However, any possible Home Alone revival would inevitably be tinged with a sense of sadness after Catherine O’Hara, who played Kevin’s mother Kate in the film, passed away aged 71 in January this year.
At the time, Culkin released one of the most poignant tributes to the star, as he wrote: “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”
He also opened up on the impact of O’Hara’s loss in an interview with Gentlemen’s Journal in May, where he said, “I felt that we had unfinished business. I definitely feel like I had unfinished business with her, you know? I feel like I owed her a favor — and I don’t like having an outstanding debt.”
