Man arrested and charged in connection with Mac Miller’s death

The DEA, otherwise known as the Drug Enforcement Administration, has arrested and charged a man in connection with Mac Miller’s death.

The DEA, working in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department, have confirmed that a man from the Hollywood Hills area has been apprehended in connection with the death of the rapper.

The man, aged 28, has been named as Cameron James Pettit. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Pettit had been charged with “one federal count of distribution of a controlled substance.”

The said: “Pettit delivered counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl—a dangerous synthetic opioid—cocaine, and Xanax to [Mac Miller],” in a statement.

Mac Miller, born Malcolm James McCormick in Pittsburgh, was found dead at his California home in Los Angeles a coroner confirmed at the time of his death. An autopsy later confirmed that the 26-year-old’s death was caused after he consumed a lethal mix of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol.

The statement continued: “Hours after reports of McCormick’s death became public, Pettit told a friend that he would die in jail and asked another friend if he should post messages he had with McCormick.”

If found guilty, it is reported that Pettit could be facing up to 20 years in prison.

Following the autopsy, Miller’s death was confirmed as an accidental overdose.

According to TMZ, Miller was found by his assistant unresponsive on his bed in a “praying position”. The report also claims that the rapper was kneeling forward, his face resting on his knees and blood streaming from his nose.

While the amount of drugs taken is not thought to be lethal, it is the combination of all three that caused his death. The rapper shot to fame in 2011 with his debut album but struggled with substance abuse, even openly rapping about his struggles in multiple songs.

“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” his family said in a statement to Pitchfork. “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

The LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, said in a statement at the time of death: “The music artist known as Mac Miller died today in his Studio City home.

“In the late morning of September 7, Malcolm McCormick was found unresponsive…. authorities were called and Miller was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 (18:51 GMT).

“At this time, an autopsy is pending and a cause of death has not been determined.”
