He’s back. Terrible caps, over-sized jumpers and a pretence of nonchalance at the ready, your favourite slacker rock musketeer is back at it. Mac DeMarco returns to our ears with his singular sound with two new track and some more details on his new album, out on Captured Tracks on 5th May, This Old Dog
The new tracks however signal a departure for DeMarco from his usual sound. The physical move he made from Queens to L.A. is now permeating his work as the tracks below are more refined and softer. ‘This Old Dog’ and ‘My Old Man’ still have all the hallmarks of a DeMarco song but with the gleam of L.A. smushed across their face. A little too Jack Johnson? Maybe, but as Mac explains this is part of an evolution of the artist.
“The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar,” he said.
“So this is a new thing for me. This is my acoustic album, but it’s not really an acoustic album at all. That’s just what it feels like, mostly. I’m Italian, so I guess this is an Italian rock record.”
It’s a Wednesday and you have two new Mac DeMarco tracks to listen to, honestly what is your problem?
