Watch strange parody of Lorde song 'Solar Power' and 'Midsommar'

The people of YouTube have once again created a mashup that we never knew we needed, melding the music of Lorde’s ‘Solar Power’ and Ari Aster’s disturbing horror film, Midsommar, to create something rather terrifying.

The easy-breezy summer song from Lorde features an original sun-kissed music video that sees the singer prance around a sandy beach, taking in all the frivolous joys of summer far away from the suggestion of any Swedish cult activity. YouTube user ‘leandroxcx’ spotted it and decided to give the song a far more disturbing tone with a parody video that places the joys of Lorde’s song in the context of Midsommar.

Collecting over 160,000 views, it seems as though the creator of the video wasn’t the only one who got vibes of the sinister 2019 film from Lorde’s song, with the top comment from the video reading: “Literally thought of Midsommar while listening to ‘Solar Power’”.

Starting in the darkness of winter to reflect Lorde’s lyrics, “I hate the winter”, the video then transitions to Midsommar’s sunny Swedish setting to illustrate the golden glow of summer. Sharing three singles ahead of her third studio album, Solar Power, including ‘Mood Ring’, ‘Stoned at the Nail Salon’ and ‘Solar Power’, the brand new release is due to come out on August 20th.

“I think you’ve made the most idyllic horror film of all time, you’ve taken Stepford Wives and shattered the attractiveness of that movie with this one. That alone is a feat,” Get Out filmmaker Jordan Peele said to Aster in an interview between the two of them in Volume 2, Issue #4 of Fangoria magazine. “I mean, this usurps The Wicker Man as the most iconic pagan movie to be referenced,” Peele’s glowing praise continued, though of course, Midsommar is only attractive from the outside looking in. The reality it represents is far darker.

Take a look at the mashup of Lorde and Midsommar below.
