Lorde claims she cured her stage fright with MDMA

During a new appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Lorde revealed how she cured her stage fright with MDMA.

The singer appeared on the American talk show ahead of the release of her new album, Virgin, which is set for release on June 27th. While the Kiwi artist didn’t perform on the programme, she engaged in a broad-ranging discussion with the host, which also covered David Byrne and Charli XCX.

At one stage in the conversation, Lorde told Colbert: “I had truly the most horrific stage fright, really since I was like five doing community theatre.”

Delving into more detail about how she managed to overcome this fear, Lorde honestly explained, “Well, it’s MDMA therapy. Yeah. Truly, like, changed the game on my stage fright.” Elaborating on her therapy, the New Zealander explained: “What I’ve heard, some of these (fears) live very deep in the body, and you hold on to it.”

The ‘What Was That‘ singer continued: “You hold on to a response like stage fright for reasons that no amount of talk therapy or brain use could get at. But when you bypass that and get to the body, something shifts. And that totally happened for me. I tried everything for my stage fright. I did this therapy, and then literally, I woke up the next day and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s over. I know it’s over.'”

Lorde will be putting her MDMA therapy to good use when she gets back on the road later this year for a lengthy arena tour across North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom.

She is also speculated to perform a secret set at Glastonbury. Currently, there’s a special TBA set listed at 11:30am at Woodsies on June 27th, which has been rumoured to be Lorde because it is the release date of her new album, Virgin. Lewis Capaldi, Pulp, Chappell Roan and Haim are also among those that have been mentioned as potential surprise acts.

When Lorde recently appeared on BBC Radio 2, she addressed the speculation and told Jo Whiley: “I am quite tempted by what’s going on because I’ve got lots of friends playing as well, we’ll see, we’ll see if I can pull some strings and get there.”
