‘Looney Tunes’ movie to be released despite prior cancellation

After Warner Bros announced their plans to shelve the new Looney Tunes film Coyote vs. Acme, they have now reportedly reversed their decision.

The movie has already been shot, but the initial reasoning for not releasing the upcoming film, starring John Cena, came following a change in management as Bill Damaschke became the head of Warner Animation Group earlier this year.

“With the re-launch of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation in June, the studio has shifted its global strategy to focus on theatrical releases,” a spokesperson for the studio explained in a statement.

They continued: “With this new direction, we have made the difficult decision not to move forward with Coyote vs Acme. We have tremendous respect for the filmmakers, casts, and crew, and are grateful for their contributions to the film.”

In response to the decision to cancel the $72million budget film, director Dave Green shared with his followers on Twitter: “For three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate, and resilient character of all time. I was surrounded by a brilliant team who poured their souls into this project for years.”

Green continued: “We were all determined to honour the legacies of these historic characters and actually get them right. Along the ride, we were embraced by test audiences who rewarded us with fantastic scores. I am beyond proud of the final product and beyond devastated by WB’s decision. But in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day.”

Following Green’s public statement, an outcry ensued on social media, which has now caused Warner Bros to change their mind. Newsletter Puck claims the movie studio has now given the filmmakers an opportunity to find another distributor for Coyote vs. Acme.

A potential release date for Coyote vs. Acme remains unknown.
