Lola Young takes legal action against producer behind hit single ‘Messy’

Lola Young will be taking legal action against one of the producers behind her viral hit single ‘Messy’.

As reported by The Independent, the British singer-songwriter has apparently filed an intellectual property claim against Carter Lang following his claim for writing credits on four of her songs, something she “strongly refutes”.

The case was reportedly filed on October 1st on behalf of Young and Sony Music Publishing. A statement from her lawyers began: “It is with immense disappointment, especially given recent events, that we have no choice but to respond to recent writing credit claims from Carter Lang on four Lola Young songs by issuing legal proceedings on her behalf.”

It continued, “Carter’s claims are strongly refuted and we will not allow Lola’s reputation and integrity to be called into question – particularly so long after the sessions took place and agreements were put in place.”

It then praises Young’s craftsmanship, adding, “Lola has always been authentic in her songwriting process and acknowledges songwriting contributions where appropriate. This dispute has been ongoing for several months, and we look forward to the truth being established.”

Young recently announced that she will be taking a step back from music. This came in the wake of the star falling ill during her set at the American festival, All Things Must Go, on September 27th, while singing her early tune ‘Conceited’.

A medical team rushed to the stage and carried her backstage. This followed a short speech where she had admitted to having a “tricky couple of days,” as “sometimes life can really make you feel like you can’t continue.”

Shortly thereafter, she released a statement that revealed she was “going away for a while”. In the statement, she confessed, “It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all the love and support. I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know.”
