Lizzo wins legal battle after fat-shaming case dismissed

Lizzo has won part of her legal battle against three of her former dancers, after their claims of fat-shaming were dismissed by a judge.

The lawsuit was first filed in 2023, when dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez alleged that they were fired from the singer’s tour over the fact that they had gained weight.

These claims have now been dismissed by a judge in court, with Lizzo posting a video to her social media channels to confirm the news.

“There was no evidence that I fired them because they gained weight. They were fired for taking a private recording of me without my consent and sending it off to ex-employees,” she claimed.

Despite these allegations having now been dropped, Lizzo and her team will still face trial over accusations of sexual harassment from the dancers, which the singer has always strongly denied.

Within this set of allegations, court documents claim that the ‘Juice’ singer “pressured Ms Davis to touch the breasts” of a nightclub worker in Amsterdam, which the dancer eventually did, despite initially refusing, as she feared “it may harm her future on the team” otherwise (per BBC News).

Other accusations involve the dancers allegedly having to eat fruit from the naked bodies of sex club workers, which they claim Lizzo said was part of the creative process which inspired her shows.

The singer’s lawyers have stated that these are “meritless claims”, and in her latest statement, Lizzo made clear she intends to carry on with the lawsuit despite it having “haunted” her since 2023 and been “devastating to suffer through this in silence”.

She concluded: “I am not settling. I will be fighting every single claim until the truth is out.”
