Little Simz announces new album ‘Lotus’
Little Simz has announced the release date for her upcoming album, Lotus. The Mercury Prize-winning rapper will release her sixth record in May.
Last week, the artist shared a teaser clip on social media featuring a bass guitar-heavy new song. The caption read “FLOOD. FEB 26th.” The cryptic post caused speculation to go into overdrive but the questions came to an end on the 26th when Little Simz shared a new track along with an album announcement.
‘Flood’ is not only the start of a new era for Simz but also features vocals from Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly. Alongside the track, she released a striking black-and-white visualiser to set the tone for this new chapter.
Announcing that her new album would be called Lotus, a flower that is a symbol of renewal and growth, fans can likely expect exactly that from this upcoming release. Following her 2022 album, No Thank You and 2024’s Drop 7 EP, this will be the first full-length record fans have heard from Simz in over two years.
Lotus is set for release on May 9th, 2025, securing Simz’s spot in the list of this year’s most highly anticipated albums. It also comes perfectly timed ahead of her role as this year’s Southbank Centre Meltdown Festival curator.
Taking place between June 12th and June 22nd at the Southbank Centre, Simz personally chose the performers for each night and will be hitting the stage herself.
She said of the announcement of her involvement: “I’m super excited to be the 2025 Meltdown festival curator! My team and I are preparing eleven days of art, music, workshops and more. So many incredible artists have curated this festival so it’s a true honour to be a part of it.”
