Listen to the fun new single from Yard Act, ‘We Make Hits’

In the run-up to their new album, Yard Act has released a fun new single, ‘We Make Hits,’ which doubles up as a chaotic spoken word number and an ode to friendship.

Where’s My Utopia is set for release on March 1st, and its build-up has seen some of the band’s most fun and inventive music to date. ‘Dream Job’ and ‘Petroleum’ have captured their audience’s attention. However, the 2023 single ‘Trench Coat Museum’, an eight-minute long funk-filled tune about trench coat history, has set the new record up as some of the band’s best work.

According to Yard Act frontman James Smith, the new single ‘We Make Hits,’ “started like most Yard Act songs do these days, in Ryan’s spare bedroom… he’d recorded a couple of basslines, and I went round to throw some words on top just to see what might happen.”

“I was reflecting on how things had changed so much for us over the last few years when I realised that sat round a laptop trying to make each other laugh, necking black coffee and craning our heads out of the window to smoke cigs every hour or so, all that had really changed within the writing process was that, thanks to my baby, we were at Ryan’s house rather than mine and that Ryan had a place of his own now, which was nice.”

Smith concluded, “Despite the outside blowing up, behind closed doors, we were the same, and I’m grateful for that.”

The single comes with a fun new music video which expands on the mini cinematic universe the band has made for themselves. Director James Slater commented saying it was “a continuation of The Visitor’s journey we began with ‘The Trench Coat Museum.’”
