Back in the early noughties, there was one band championing the synergy of art and music, that band was the Eddie Argos fronted po-mo pogo-ing band Art Brut and now they’ve returned with their first brand new song in 7 years, the furious ‘Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out!’
‘Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out!’ is Art Brut’s first new music since 2011’s Brilliant! Tragic!. Aside from their 2013 best of album Top of the Pops.
“This is a song about making new friends,” Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos said in a statement. “Watch the fuck out! We’re back and very rejuvenated. Art Brut are coming to your party whether you want us to or not.” That’s where the track firmly lays its party hat.
A song built out of the similar Art Brut structure which led their fans into a sardonic sanctuary some years ago is now expertly filled with the added impetus of age and wisdom.
Argos went on to speak about life between the last two releases “I moved to Berlin, I nearly died with Peritonitis. I was in a hospital for a bit. I had a son, I had a relationship that broke up. I wrote a comic, a memoir, a musical, and had a one-man show.”
The line up has also taken some changes with the band now being formed of original members Argos, Ian Catskilkin, Freddy Feedback. As well as new additions guitarist Toby McFarlane (who plays bass for Graham Coxon) and drummer Charlie Layton of the Wedding Present.
