Lindsay Lohan names the most memorable scene of her career: “That was my favourite”

There was a time when Lindsay Lohan ruled the world. As a child star, she broke out in the late 1990s, thanks to her dual role in the Disney remake of The Parent Trap. She continued to build her profile throughout the 2000s, appearing in more movies and even releasing two studio albums between 2004 and 2005.

Yes, her personal life ended up in the news more often than her acting career, but she has successfully come out the other side with plenty of fans still on her side.

Those fans are able to reflect on some of Lohan’s great moments from the height of her career. There’s her role opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday, the movie in which a young woman swaps bodies with her mother, a sequel to which will be released in 2025. You’ve got the likes of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Herbie: Fully Loaded, A Prairie Home Companion, and, of course, the legendary Mean Girls.

As Cady Heron, the young woman struggling to adjust to life in a cutthroat US high school, Lohan leads this Tina Fey-penned teenage comedy that has touched all corners of the pop culture globe. Its quotes have become mythical—did anyone ever make “fetch” happen?—and its characters, particularly Rachel McAdams’ Regina George, have become archetypes. For Lohan, in particular, it also gave her the best acting moment of her career.

“Acting-wise, I think my favourite moment was when I had to wear the Halloween costume,” she revealed to Cosmopolitan. “Filming that was actually really tough. All of the other girls got to dress really beautiful and hot and sexy, and I had to just dress like this disgusting, dead bride, ex-wife. But I actually had fun helping do my makeup for that. But I think that was my favourite. Also, because Cady got really emotional in that scene. And, so, that was fun to be able to do; and act in a different way.”

The scene in question comes up during the film’s first act. Cady gets the wrong end of the stick and turns up to the party as a spooky, undead bride, complete with horrible fake teeth. The other girls, however, all wear sexy clothes with minimal effort to tie them to an actual costume. Except for Karen, she’s a mouse, duh? The scene is key because Regina’s decision to kiss Aaron Samuels, her ex and the object of Cady’s affection, inspires her frenemy to enact full revenge on the ‘Plastics’.

Lohan could have picked any scene from Mean Girls and hit upon something that would have struck a chord. The movie is full of inimitable moments, from Janis and Damian running down the different cliques in the cafeteria to wearing pink on Wednesdays to the girls’ famous Christmas routine, which has become a holiday staple for many. It is a truly remarkable piece of film, and Lohan brings so much to it.

The Halloween scene in Mean Girls gave Lohan a chance to stand out and prove herself as an actual performer. It is one of many great moments from the film that will follow her for the rest of her life, and it’s nice to see that she has embraced it.
