Lilly Wachowski to make her solo directorial debut with ‘Trash Mountain’
Director and writer Lilly Wachowski, best known for co-writing and co-directing The Matrix films with her sister Lana, will soon be making her solo directorial debut by helming a new movie called Trash Mountain.
The film is being produced by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, as well as Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev. It will star comedian Caleb Hearon, who has also written the story with Ruby Caster.
The comedy movie will focus on a gay man in his 20s who returns to his Missouri home from Chicago in order to deal with the fallout of his father’s death, including making his way through his late relative’s belongings.
Trash Mountain will mark Wachowski’s debut feature as a solo director and will also see her return to filmmaking after nearly ten years away. Her last release was 2015’s Jupiter Ascending.
In a statement given to Collider, Wachowski noted, “When my pal Caleb Hearon sent me Trash Mountain, I leapt at the chance to direct it. So beautiful and sad and funny! Queer representation and stories are vital at this time as we are being shoved further into the margins.”
“Our amazing writers, Caleb and Ruby, are a shining light in all this dang darkness,” the director added.
Trevorrow also spoke of the film’s team, saying, “Caleb Hearon and Ruby Caster are true originals, and Lilly Wachowski is a living legend. I’m insanely lucky to call them collaborators and friends.”
At this stage, there is no current release date for Trash Mountain. The cast for the upcoming movie will also be announced later.
