Lil Nas X pleads not guilty to assault charges

Lil Nas X has pleaded not guilty after being officially charged with four offences following his arrest on August 21st, 2025.

The rapper was confronted by the police on Los Angeles’ Ventura Boulevard after he was allegedly found walking naked.

Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Hill, is subsequently being charged with three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer, after he reportedly charged at officers when they got to the scene, Officer Drake Madison said. His bail is now set at $75,000.

The rapper pleaded not guilty during his arraignment and was released from jail on August 25th, according to court records. The case will now progress to pretrial, which begins on September 15th, and Hill will face up to five years in prison if sentenced.

In addition to the trial, a Los Angeles judge has ordered Hill to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings, but the rapper’s attorney, Christy O’Connor, has insisted that her client was not taking illegal drugs prior to his arrest.

In a statement regarding the case, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J Hochman said,  “Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety.”

He added, “Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be.”

The Atlanta-born rapper is best known for his 2018 hit, ‘Old Town Road’, which merged country and hip-hop, and made him the first openly gay man to receive a Country Music Association award.

Now, fans await Hill’s much-anticipated sophomore album Dreamboy, which was scheduled for release later this year, with new music teasers featuring on his Instagram account.
