Liam Gallagher says his “life caved in” following Oasis split
Liam Gallagher has opened up about how his “life caved in” following Noel Gallagher’s decision to leave Oasis in 2009, causing the band to break up.
Infamously, the brothers had a confrontation shortly before they were due to headline Rock en Seine in Paris. However, the band cancelled their scheduled performance at the last minute and officially confirmed their disbandment. Although Liam formed Beady Eye with former bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock shortly afterwards, the lead singer claims to have been left in the cold.
In a new interview with The Guardian, Liam, who is set to celebrate Oasis’ debut album Definitely Maybe turning 30 later this year with an arena tour, reflected on their split. “They threw me under the fucking bus. All my life caved in,” he said of Noel and the band’s manager, Marcus Russell.
Liam also claimed that Noel was already plotting to go solo, which he believes could have co-existed alongside Oasis. The singer remarked: “If you want to do your little thing because you’re not getting enough attention, feel free, mate. I’ll go to Barbados and sit on a beach for six months, but don’t be pulling the plug on the band. That’s the way I saw it.”
Additionally, the former Beady Eye frontman rubbished claims that his heavy drinking was the reason why Oasis split, stating: “That was my behaviour since day one, and his. That’s what made Oasis what it was. I wasn’t any different, but all of a sudden, he’s turned into Ronan Keating or some soft cunt, going: ‘We can’t have that behaviour.’”
Furthermore, he also criticised Noel for touring with former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan, who was convicted of assaulting his partner in 2020. “Meanwhile, [these days] he’s out on tour with fucking [ex-Kasabian frontman] Tom Meighan, who’s allegedly, apparently,” Liam remarked. “And yet you won’t get back in a band with me because I’m a ‘fucking cunt’?! Eh, chill out, mate.”
Following Oasis’ split, Liam says the situation was an “absolute nightmare” because all of his infrastructure was removed, leaving him with no management. “I could barely tie my shoelace let alone run my business or my life. All that support was taken away, but little Noely G had it all still there,” he added.
Meanwhile, Liam recently teamed up with The Stone Roses guitarist John Squire for the new single ‘Just Another Rainbow’, ahead of their upcoming collaborative album, which will arrive later this year.
