Les Savy Fav release ‘Legendary Tippers’, their first new music in 14 years
New York indie band Les Savy Fav have returned with their first music in 14 years, the dynamic single ‘Legendary Tippers’.
Notably, the band’s last single was 2010’s ‘Let’s Get Out of Here’, taken from the album Root for Ruin. Despite such an extensive time away, though, the quintet have picked up where they left off, delivering an energetic blend of art rock and post-hardcore in the form of ‘Legendary Tippers’. The new song is supplemented by a meta music video featuring the band and a surprise appearance from comedian David Cross.
Frontman Tim Harrington says of the track: “The guitars have this offhanded virtuoso thing going. Seth had stacked all of these semi-improvised scratch tracks into a demo. When I got them, I was immediately drawn to the manic pile-up of using them all, all at once, with zero edits. It’s like if the solo from ‘Taxman’ wolfed down a bottle of Adderall.”
While the band members might have undertaken different endeavours since their last album, their lauded set at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound 2022 inspired them to make new music. After sharing demos, jamming in Harrington’s attic and DIY recording, they knew their new sounds were right.
“When we finished our last record, there was a sense that if we were going to do more, we wanted to do something more ambitious,” Harrington says of their new music. “I think it took us a while to even get in a space where that was possible.”
In what promises to be an exciting year for Les Savy Fav, they will return to the live arena later this month. Only five dates have presently been announced, commencing at Camden’s Electric Ballroom on February 24th and concluding at the place that started this new chapter, Primavera, on May 28th.
