Léa Seydoux admits feeling “sad” upon hearing James Bond was sold to Amazon

James Bond actor Léa Seydoux admitted that she was initially disappointed over Amazon’s acquisition of the world-renowned franchise.

In February 2025, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced that they were transferring creative control of the franchise to Amazon MGM, a streamer founded by media mogul Jeff Bezos.

Reflecting on the shocking sale, the 40-year-old actor told Variety in a new interview, “I was a bit sad when I heard that it was sold.”

The French actor starred as Dr Madeleine Swann, Daniel Craig’s love interest in 2015’s Spectre and 2021’s No Time to Die, so industry officials were interested to hear her inside perspective on the huge sale.

Despite her initial disappointment, Seydoux expressed relief that Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve is on board for the challenge.

“Now that it’s Denis, I was like, ‘Oh, at least it’s him, so it will be cinema,’” she added.

Dishing out further praising the Oscar-nominated Canadian filmmaker, she deemed him “super cultured — he knows so much about cinema, but not only cinema.”

In June 2025, the 58-year-old director was appointed the first director in the film’s first franchise under Amazon MGM’s stewardship.

In a statement shared at the time, Villeneuve reassured sceptical Bond fans that he was the man for the job: “Some of my earliest moviegoing memories are connected to 007,” he recalled.

He added, “I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory.”

After Craig hung up his hat as the fearless franchise frontman, the search for the next Bond is underway, but the studio has encouraged fans to exercise patience as they take their time to make the right casting decision.

Actors such as Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jacob Elordi are all reportedly considered frontrunners for the part.
