LCD Soundsystem to release first album in eight years
LCD Soundsystem are set to release a new album in 2025, according to Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
The James Murphy-fronted group’s last album was 2017’s American Dream, and since then, they have continued to tour excessively, but news regarding a potential fifth record by the New York legends has been slim on the ground.
Now, however, the wait seems to be coming to a close. LCD Soundsystem are among the acts to have been announced for the 2025 edition of Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and the Spanish festival has claimed they will be coming to Catalonia with a new album in tow.
Upon announcing the band’s participation at Primavera Sound, the event shared: “The influential band led by James Murphy will come back to the festival (and with a new album!) to make it clear that, although they are an inherent part of our best memories, their time is always now.”
The latest development arrives mere days after LCD Soundsystem announced their comeback with new single, ‘X-Ray Eyes’, which hinted that a new full-length release was on the way. In typical LCD style, rather than share the track on streaming platforms and adapt to the methods of modern musical consumption, it received a premiere on NTS Radio.
In a three-star review of ‘X-Ray Eyes’, Far Out wrote: “The song is a creditable effort with its place in the world, mainly in the background of New York loft parties, but it feels a bit like generic ‘cool music’ that a fictional band in an indie movie starring Logan Lerman from 2018 might play. Nevertheless, you can’t say it isn’t catchy.”
In 2022, Murphy played down the prospect of a new album by LCD Soundsytem, stating they’d release “maybe just singles for a while, so there isn’t some ‘album panic’ etc. we don’t know. we DO know that it was great to play those shows, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the shows we’re playing this year.”
However, more than two years on from this statement, it seems, Murphy has suffered a change of heart, and has secretly made another LCD Soundsystem album which would explain the lack of singles since he made the pledge.
Primavera Sound 2025 line-up
In addition to LCD Soundsystem, Primavera Sound has unveiled Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Chappell Roan as the event’s three headline acts. Securing three of the biggest artists in contemporary music is a coup for the Barcelona event, which is set to take place from June 4th to June 8th at the Parc del Fòrum.
Other artists set to appear across the weekend include Idles, Fontaines D.C., Wet Leg, Jamie xx, FKA Twigs, Clairo, TV on the Radio, Turnstile, Confidence Man, CMAT, Haim, Caribou, Beabadoobee, Denzel Curry, Kelly Lee Owens, MJ Lenderman, The Dare, Spiritualized, Black Country New Road, High Vis, and Joy Orbison.
Primavera Sound Porto is also set to take place from June 12th to June 14th in the Portuguese city, but a line-up is yet to be revealed for the sister event.
