In a direct response to Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 American Presidential election, singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey has released a patriotic cover of the hymn ‘On Eagle’s Wings’.
The decision to cover the 1970 hymn was inspired by Biden who, in reaction to winning the election, shared some words from the very same piece of work. It is reported that the future President’s late son Beau Biden, who died from cancer in 2015, loved the hymn.
Releasing a black and white clip of her performing the song a capella, Del Rey sings: “And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings/ Bear you on the breath of dawn/ Make you shine like the sun/ And hold you in the palm of His hand.”
When sharing the cover, Del Rey wrote in an accompanying caption: “Hey guys well as promised we are getting a Headstart on that album of standard folk songs and all things Americana, but we took a break to watch the Biden speech and he mentioned at the end of it to hymn that he hoped gave Americans hope so I thought I would just give a little version of that as we took a break in the studio.”
The song comes as hundreds of different artists pay tribute to Joe Biden’s victory and reiterate Del Rey’s message of hope for a more peaceful future.
