To mark what would have been Leonard Cohen’s 85th birthday, Lana Del Rey invited his son, Adam, on stage for a rendition of ‘Chelsea Hotel #2’ live.
Kicking off her major Norman Fucking Rockwell tour with a show at the Jones Beach Theater in New York on Saturday, Del Rey reunited with Adam Cohen once again after previously performing together at a tribute concert with Courtney Love, Sting, Elvis Costello, and Feist.
After opening the set with her album track, Del Rey rolled into a live debut of her song ‘Bartender’ before taking a moment to remember the great Leonard Cohen. Inviting Adam on stage, the two sang the 1974 song which first appeared on his 1974 album New Skin for the Old Ceremony.
The song, and thus album, marked a major change in Cohen’s artistry and saw him move away the minimal instrumentation of his earlier work and began to introduce more guitars, mandolins and banjos.
