Lana Del Rey announces country album

Lana Del Rey has confirmed her new country album, Lasso, is in development and will be her next musical project.

Lasso, Del Rey’s 10th studio LP, is set for release in September. Her most recent album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, recently received five Grammy nods.

At the ceremony in Los Angeles on February 4th, awards Del Rey is nominated for include ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ for ‘Candy Necklace’ with Jon Batiste while ‘A&W’ is up for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Alternative Music Performance’.

At Billboard’s pre-Grammy event on January 31st, Del Rey praised longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff and hinted that her next record would be a change of direction.

“If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country,” she told the crowd.

Nodding to Antonoff’s role in the new album, she said: “We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”

She also said he was a “one in a million” and claimed the producer was “born under one of those talent, lucky musical stars”.

Del Rey’s upcoming country twist record follows her ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads‘ cover in 2023. Additionally, earlier this month, she posted a clip of the unreleased new song ‘Henry, Come On’ and pointedly tagged country producer Luke Laird.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Del Rey made musical history with her debut album, Born To Die. The LP has now spent ten full years on the Billboard 200 chart. The singer-songwriter has become the first female artist to reach the milestone with a debut album released through a major label.
