Lady Gaga becomes third artist to have multiple number-one singles in three decades
After Lady Gaga‘s collaboration with Bruno Mars, ‘Die with a Smile,’ reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, she became only the third artist in history to have multiple songs accomplish this feat in three separate decades.
Gaga released the track with Mars in August, and it has been slowly rising in the charts since it arrived all those months ago before landing in the top spot in January 2025. At the time of writing, ‘Die with a Smile’ has been streamed almost 1.5 billion times on Spotify alone, and also charted at number one in several countries across the globe.
It marks Gaga’s sixth song to top the Billboard Hot 100. Her first number-one single came in 2008 with ‘Just Dance’, and the follow-up single, ‘Poker Face’, also peaked at the top of the charts. In the 2010s, her first number-one of the decade arrived in 2011 with ‘Born This Way’. Seven years later, Gaga’s next number one came thanks to her Bradley Cooper collaboration ‘Shallow’ from A Star Is Born soundtrack.
This decade, Gaga first reached the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020 with ‘Rain On Me’, featuring Ariana Grande, before achieving the same feat again with ‘Die with a Smile’.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate the achievement, Gaga said: “I am so honoured to be an artist and to have had your ears for this long. Thank you for listening and dancing and making your art along with mine.”
The only other two artists to have had multiple songs top the Billboard Hot 100 in three decades are Michael Jackson in the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s and Janet Jackson in the ’80s, ’90s and ’10s.
Lady Gaga is currently gearing up to release her seventh album, which is known as LG7. At this stage, no official release date has been provided, but it’s expected to arrive in early 2025.
