Labi Siffre announces first new album in 27 years, ‘Unfinished Business’

British singer Labi Siffre has announced his first album in 27 years, titled Unfinished Business.

Siffre announced the news on February 16th, marking the first new full-length project from him since the release of The Last Songs in 1998.

As his 11th studio album from across his career, which reached its height during the 1970s and ‘80s, Siffre has also released the single ‘Far Away’, which he first premiered in a performance in 2022.

For the part of the album, however, Unfinished Business is set to arrive at some point over the course of this year, although a specific release date is yet to be revealed.

Siffre’s hits include the likes of ‘(Something Inside) So Strong’ and ‘Bless The Telephone’, the latter of which has gained huge renewed viral traction on TikTok within the past year, amassing more than 52 million streams as a result.

The singer has had a wide-ranging effect on music of many different genres, including his 1975 song ‘I Got The…’ being sampled in the hip-hop world on Eminem‘s ‘My Name Is’.

His music was also used in the 2025 film Sentimental Value, directed by Joachim Trier, which has been nominated for eight awards including ‘Best Picture’ at the upcoming Oscars.

This has subsequently prompted Siffre out of retirement for the second time in his life, having first left the music industry in 1975. He re-emerged a decade later, stirred by the Apartheid to write his iconic protest anthem, ‘(Something Inside) So Strong’.

Afterwards, the singer released a further four albums over the course of 1988 until 1998, before once again retreating into retirement until now.

Along with the release of Unfinished Business later this year, Siffre’s huge 1972 album Crying Laughing Loving Lying is set to receive a special re-release edition on vinyl, in celebration of Record Store Day 2026.
