Kristen Stewart “hated making” ‘Charlie’s Angels’

Kristen Stewart has disclosed she “hated” filming the 2019 Charlie’s Angels reboot, directed by Elizabeth Banks.

The actor starred alongside Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska, but the movie performed poorly at the box office, earning $73.3million. Furthermore, the reaction from the public was also lukewarm, with the film failing to meet expectations.

In a new ‘Know Their Lines’ video for Variety, Stewart was asked to discuss her opening lines from the film, “Did you know that it takes men an additional seven seconds to perceive a woman as a threat compared to a man?”

This led Stewart to express her dislike of the movie, explaining, “This was a mouthful at the time. I remember saying that. That was from a little film called Charlie’s Angels. We wanted a strong opener, you know?”

She added, “We wanted to really like broadcast what the movie was about. It was a good idea at the time. I hated making that movie.”

Then Stewart compared it to the original version, explaining, “I don’t know what else to say to you. Honestly, the three…you can’t touch [that]. Cameron [Diaz], Lucy [Liu] and Drew [Barrymore]…I love that movie. I love that movie! If that says anything.”

Written and directed by Banks, the 2019 version of Charlie’s Angels was her second directorial feature following Pitch Perfect 2. The actor-turned-director’s most recent project was Cocaine Bear, released in 2023.

Meanwhile, Stewart recently revealed she is currently in the process of writing a “stoner girl comedy” feature film with her girlfriend Dylan Meyer.

She explained: “The reason I even thought of this is because our producer is our best friend. We’re starting a company…I’ve worked with so many people that I didn’t know and that I didn’t like for so long. It was definitely valuable, but also, fuck that.”
