Kristen Bell signs up for new Fox News spin-off podcast about Jesus

Kristen Bell has chosen the next step in her illustrious career: a 52-episode podcast about Jesus, in which she will voice Mary Magdalene.

The Gossip Girl voice actor will take an integral role in The Life of Jesus podcast, as presented by Fox News. The project is a new effort to expand the Fox Faith vertical.

The Fox News connection runs deeper, as Fox and Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt will introduce each episode. Over 100 actors will be included in the huge project.

According to a press release, the podcast will “bring stories from the New Testament to life through immersive storytelling.” The same press release shares that Fox News licensed the show from a company called Gulfstream Studios.

Bell will work alongside a surprisingly star-studded cast: Sean Astin will play Matthew; Neal McDonough will play Jesus; Brian Cox will represent the Voice of God. Additionally, Malcolm McDowell will portray Caiaphas; John Rhys-Davies, will be the omniscient narrator; and Julia Ormond will voice Mary, Mother of God.

The 52 episodes will be released in batches of 13, specifically linked to individual Christian holidays. The first 13 episodes debut to mark the start of Advent. It will be available via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and FOXNewsPodcasts.com.

Bell has previously said that she is not a very religious person. Speaking to People in 2018, she shared that her mother is “very religious” and a “born again Christian.” H

However, she admitted, “I think it’s hard for her to digest [that I’m not religious], and I don’t really like to talk about it a lot because when I’m talking about it all I feel is that I’m disappointing my mother, which is an awful feeling.”

Bell’s latest project saw her star in Nobody Wants This alongside Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, in which she plays the wife of a rabbi.
