Kris Kristofferson: tributes pour in following the death of pioneering music icon
Following the passing of country music legend Kris Kristofferson, tributes from fans, musical colleagues, and cinematic co-stars have flooded social media channels, expressing their undying love and admiration for the late pioneer.
Kristofferson passed away on Saturday, September 28th, in his own house, which was announced by his family in a joint statement. He had previously battled Lyme disease, which was initially misdiagnosed in his later years, finally succumbing to the consequences at the age of 88.
Active in both cinema and music, both worlds were dismayed by the news of Kristofferson’s passing, including Kyle Young, the CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, who delivered a moving message about Kristofferson’s indelible legacy.
Young wrote: “Kris’s heroes included the prizefighter Muhammad Ali, the great poet William Blake, and the ‘Hillbilly Shakespeare’, Hank Williams. He lived his life in a way that honoured and exemplified the values of each of those men, and he leaves a righteous, courageous and resounding legacy that rings with theirs.”
Kristofferson’s co-star from the 1976 version of A Star is Born, Barbra Streisand, also penned a heartfelt message on Instagram, reminiscing about the projects they worked on together and expressing support for his family.
Streisand said: “For my latest concert in 2019 at London’s Hyde Park, I asked Kris to join me on stage to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, ‘Lost Inside Of You’. He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved. My thoughts go to Kris’ wife, Lisa, who I know supported him in every way possible.”
Other icons like Dolly Parton also joined in with their words of admiration, celebrating the career of one of American music’s most beloved talents.
