Korean actor Kang Seo-Ha dead at 31
Korean actor Kang Seo-Ha, who was considered a rising talent in the country’s entertainment industry, has died aged 31 from cancer.
The actor, who had starred in a number of high-profile K-dramas including the likes of Heart Surgeons, Schoolgirl Detectives and Through the Waves, passed away on July 13th after battling stage four stomach cancer, and succumbed to the disease following her second round of chemotherapy.
Her family confirmed the news via an Instagram post, which displayed various pictures of Seo-Ha alongside a tribute that said, in part: “I love you so, so, so much Kang Ye-won! Thanks for coming into my family. Thank you so much for doing my sister. I miss you already. I love you.”
A tribute posted by a close friend, translated into English, said: “I still can’t believe it. While enduring such great pain, she worried about the people around her, and about me. Even though you couldn’t eat for months, you insisted on paying for my meals with your own card and never let me skip a meal. My angel, who left us far too soon.”
The post added: “Even as you endured everything with painkillers, you said you were grateful that it wasn’t worse, and I felt truly ashamed. My dear sister, you went through so much. I hope you are only happy and free from pain where you are now!”
According to local media reports from the country, the actor’s funeral will take place on July 16th before she is laid to rest in Haman, Gyeongsangnam Province.
Seo-Ha was quickly set on becoming one of her country’s most prolific acting talents, having graduated from the Korea National University of Arts and first made her debut into the industry in a music video in 2012.
Despite the severity of her cancer diagnosis, she had recently returned to work on a film titled Mangnaein, which is now expected to be released posthumously.
