Kings of Leon announce new album ‘Can We Please Have Fun’
Kings of Leon have announced details of their new album, Can We Please Have Fun, set for release on May 10th through Polydor Records.
The upcoming record from the Followill family will mark their first full-length project since When You See Yourself, which topped the charts in the United Kingdom upon release in 2021. For Can We Please Have Fun, Kings of Leon have recruited producer Kid Harpoon, best known for his work with Harry Styles, most recently on the Grammy-winning Harry’s House.
In addition to announcing news of their new album, Kings of Leon have also shared the lead single, ‘Mustang’, which they previously teased on social media.
Reflecting on the recording process, drummer Nathan Followill remarked: “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable. I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”
Meanwhile, frontman Caleb Followill said making the album at Dork House studio “was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of.”
Caleb added: “When you have a band, there’s a bond like no other, and when you have family, you have a bond like no other. We have both of those things. I thought, if we put all our energy toward something, who is gonna stop us? Who can stop us except us?”
Additionally, Kings of Leon have been announced as headliners for BST Hyde Park on June 30th, where they’ll be joined by Paulo Nutini and The Vaccines. More acts are expected to join the line-up at a later date.
In a review of When You See Yourself, Far Out wrote: “It’s an album that has moments that both their old-school fanbase who cherished Youth & Young Manhood in 2003 will enjoy and their post ‘Sex On Fire’ crowd will lap up — but fulfilling the needs of both these demographics is one that sees Kings of Leon fall short.”
