Every so often we like to throw you a hefty curveball and there is no band curvier than the mercurialKing Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Their new song ‘Some of Us’ is our Track of the Day.
Naturally, it would be a King Gizzard song without it being accompanied by a somewhat nightmarish video and ‘Some of Us’ has certainly got you covered on that front. Put simply, this is a fever-dream release which has our weekends heating up.
The track is a magi carpet ride out of lockdown and out on to the harsh desert landscape. As Stu Mackenzie sings “Ancient tombs like sand-filled wombs,” it’s hard not to get lost in the imagery. The track was written earlier this year.
In a statement released on social media, Gizz shared: “This Cookie penned, Stu sung song came together early this year as the world was slowly descending into madness, but before it was truly on fire. Can’t wait to show y’all some more tunes before we go down in flames.”
The aforementioned nightmarish video was directed by John Angus Stewart and sees the band portray through a thermal imaging sensor and allows the band to pull some gruesome camera tricks that make them look like they ar eboth on fire and have blood running down their faces.
The new single comes following ‘Honey’ which was released last month and marks a welcomed return for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as they offer us a double dose of psych-rock to take our minds off the world for a few minutes.
