King Crimson are working on their first album in two decades

King Crimson have confirmed they are working on their first studio album in over two decades.

The prog-rock legends have not been active since 2022, when co-founder Ian McDonald died. In late 2024, songwriter and lyricist Peter Sinfield also passed away, and in February 2025, former percussionist Jamie Muir also died.

Despite the tragedy surrounding the band, singer and guitarist, Jakko Jakszyk, revealed exciting news for King Crimson fans. He reflected on joining the band in 2013, “It was an amazing thing to have done, and in a way, part of it’s still happening.” He then told Goldmine Magazine, “As we speak, we’re doing a King Crimson studio album.”

He did not share too many specifics, adding, “When that will come out and what format or how – that’s beyond my brief.”

However, he confirmed that those performing on the album currently make up the lineup. Jakszyk will play alongside Robert Fripp, Mel Collins, Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey.

Jakszyk continued, “But yeah, we’ve been doing it piecemeal, and then a couple of months ago, the management said, ‘Can we?’ So, yeah. I’ve been recording that with a view to it coming out in some format at some point. But who knows when?”

According to the musician, some of the album will be recognisable to fans. He added that it should contain “the studio versions” of songs from previous live releases, “and some other bits and pieces will emerge from putting it together.”

That wasn’t all. He added, “Plus, there’s also an album I made with Robert before I joined Crimson called ‘The Scarcity Of Miracles’. There’s a version of it that’s about to come out with loads and loads of extra stuff.”

Their last studio album, The Power To Believe, was released in 2003, and they last took to the road with all the current members in 2021.

Currently, there is no information on when the upcoming release will arrive.
