Kiefer Sutherland arrested after alleged assault

Actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested after an alleged physical altercation with a ride-share driver.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a call was made at around 12:15am on January 12th from the area near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

As per Variety, it was reported that the suspect, who was soon identified as Sutherland, “allegedly assaulted the driver and made criminal threats toward them.” The victim reportedly sustained no injuries that required attention at the scene.

As Sutherland violated California Penal Code section 422, he was arrested. The incident took place on January 12th.

Later that morning, he was bailed out on a $50,000 bond. His initial court date is reportedly set for February 2nd. Neither Sutherland nor his team has commented on the altercation at this time.

Sutherland broke into the film industry after starring in Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me in 1986. In 1987, he starred in Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys. His recent credits include Tinsel Town and Stone Cold Fox, as well as Juror #2 and They Cloned Tyrone.

He is best known for playing agent Jack Bauer across the thriller-action series 24, which won 20 Emmys across eight seasons. Reportedly, Sutherland is working on a potential revival of 24, with Disney attached to the new project.

In 2024, Sutherland announced that his father and fellow actor, Donald Sutherland, had passed away, penning in a written statement: “With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film.”

In addition to his celebrated roles throughout the years, Kiefer also praised his father’s inherent love for film, saying, “Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”
